Grants for Faculty Research on Engagement

Transforming Upstate New York from Rust to Green

Evaluating the impact of a university-community partnership to strengthen community resiliency and sustainability in New York state's Rust Belt

Rust to Green (R2G) is a university-community initiative with the goal of increasing the overall sustainability of communities in New York’s Rust Belt. Beginning in 2010 in Utica and expanding to Binghamton in 2013, R2G has demonstrated effective outcomes, with project-level evidence of positive impacts on student learning, faculty research and communities. The goal of this research is to develop a comprehensive and integrated R2G evaluation plan and implement that plan to better understand the program’s impact on students and community partners. The evaluation will help key stakeholders understand what the program is and isn’t achieving, and reveal ways improve and focus the program to achieve desired outcomes for community sustainability and resiliency.
