The Loneliness Project: A Staged Reading of a New Documentary Play
A documentary play addressing profound experiences of isolation in LGBTQ+ youth and senior populations
The Department of Performing and Media Arts presents a workshop production of The Loneliness Project. Inspired by a 2012 needs assessment of Chicago’s LGBTQ+ communities, this documentary play addresses the profound experiences of isolation that compound LGBTQ+ youth and senior communities’ existing health, housing and safety concerns. During the month-long rehearsal process, 10 students will be engaged as actors, designers and stage managers. In that time, they will have the opportunity to work with the artistic team and five members of Ithaca’s LGBTQ+ communities to craft a new version of The Loneliness Project from over 100 hours of collected oral histories.
