The Langtang Memory Project: Collaborative Storytelling in Post-Earthquake Nepal

Creating a 'living archive' and visual exhibitions focused on heritage and post-earthquake recovery in the Langtang Valley of Nepal

During the 2015 Nepal earthquake, a massive avalanche devastated the village of Langtang. In the wake of this disaster, a variety of stories about Langtang appeared in the international news, though media attention quickly subsided. Three years later, as the people of Langtang prepare to end their official period of collective mourning, the community wants to begin telling new stories about Langtang. Austin Lord (also a survivor of the 2015 event) is working with a group of Langtang community members, Photo.Circle and international volunteers to create a ‘living archive’ and public photographic exhibitions that speak to heritage, recovery, and resilience in the Langtang Valley. This team organizes their efforts through an ongoing collaboration called the Langtang Memory Project.
