Technological Solutions to Improve Farmer Incomes
Developing a mobile app to help farmers request services from a start-up in India
In this project, the grant recipient collaborated with Eco Opus Agri Ventures, an early-stage startup that provides farmers with integrated farm services such as harvesting, threshing and marketing. The team works with smallholder farmer for nominal rates in exchange for agricultural biomass produced on the farm, which is then used to make clean biofuels. The project helps farmers save up to 70 percent of their post-harvesting costs and significantly reduces carbon emissions.
The student, a founding member of the Eco Opus team, helped conduct in-depth discussions with the farmers to better understand their needs. The information drawn from these discussions is being used in the development of the app throughout spring 2020.
