Engaged Opportunity Grants
Tax Compliance Education
Helping low-income and elderly taxpayers understand recent changes in tax laws
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 made significant changes to tax laws, increasing the need for tax compliance education, especially among low-income and elderly taxpayers. With this grant, teams of tax accounting faculty and students travel to local libraries, community centers and other venues in Tompkins and surrounding counties to educate residents about the changes in the tax laws. The team supplements these seminars with webinars, instructional cards and other educational material that taxpayers can access after their in-person meetings.
