Self-Sustaining Oyster Population in the Great South Bay
This student worked with the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County to engage with the concern of species diversity in the local bay. The student and the organization first selected a site to develop a self-sustaining oyster population in Long Island’s Bellport Bay, attempting to foster a healthier ecosystem through intervention in the shellfish population. The student monitored the climate and diversity of the ecosystem and fostered long-term sustainability by increasing the biodiversity and abundance of the community.
