Resistance Will Not Be Stopped: Art and Social Change in Latin America and the Diaspora

Developing a poster series that brings to life the relationships between the visual arts and histories of Latin American resistance

This project harnesses art as a tool for student community leadership and engagement, bringing together campus and community for deep educational dialogue to co-curate a series of posters for the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) relating to the theme of art and resistance in Latin America. Partners worked together throughout the spring 2019 semester to select eighteen works of art from Latin America that tell a story of resistance and resilience. The artworks will be used to teach community members about revolutionary histories and artworks that are often excluded from the canon. This project engages active collaboration and partnership between students in ARTH 2550: Introduction to Latin American Art, MRC staff and community members. These posters will also travel to local high schools to be incorporated into their arts and history curricula.
