Community-Engaged Student Travel Grants

Project-Based Learning in Baton Rouge

Encouraging elementary school students to engage in project-based and active learning.

Park Elementary School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has responded to low test scores by integrating project-based and active learning into their daily curriculum. During this project, grantees partnered with the school to promote college awareness and to help improve the test scores of students. This was done through a field trip to Louisiana State University and practicing math and reading skills. The Cornell students served as teaching assistants during the trip and continue to keep in touch with the elementary school students through monthly letters.

Topics: Arts, Communication, Media and Design; Children, Youth, Seniors and Families; Education; Culture, Language and History
