Engaged Opportunity Grants
Let’s Talk Science
Science communication and civic engagement to promote mutually beneficial relationships between scientists and the public
An understanding of science helps people make informed decisions about their lives — particularly when it comes to controversial topics such as climate change, vaccines and GMOs. And scientists look to the public, in part, for resources and insights into the societal needs their research should address. This is why it’s imperative that scientists learn to engage with the public and clearly communicate scientific topics to a variety of audiences. In this project, graduate students and postdocs participate in a science communication training programs, host a public seminar series at Casita Del Polaris and partner on a mobile science cart that will extend Free Science Workshop’s services to communities on Ithaca’s Southside and West Hill neighborhoods.
