Engaged Curriculum Grants

Law and Policy of Food Systems

Enabling students to delve into the difficult technical and policy issues facing food systems today.

Covering topics from farm production to the distribution and consumption of food, this two-semester course enables students to understand the complex relationship between the interests of producers and consumers in the food policy and food justice debate. Students explore the real consequences of the federal, state and local laws and policies that govern the agriculture and food system. By learning the specialized language of farmers and food policy specialists and advocates, students are better equipped to tackle the difficult technical and policy issues facing food systems today. Students also advance Cornell’s public engagement legacy by assisting Cornell Cooperative Extension with research and outreach that support farmers and other extension constituents.
