Engaged Opportunity Grants

Improving Cooperative Business Education

Applying business class principles to address actual issues cooperative leaders are facing

This grant supports AEM 3260: Cooperative Business Management, in which groups of students work directly with a cooperative to address an issue of current relevance to the business. Projects commonly revolve around issues of governance (e.g., member education, cooperative alignment, board trust and leadership development) and finance (equity management, market analyses and member returns). A range of cooperative types (e.g., farmer, consumer, worker) are involved to match the students’ range of interests. Students establish a working relationship with their cooperative and deliver agreed upon project deliverables by the end of the term.

Topics: Economic Vitality and Entrepreneurship; Food and Agriculture
