ILR High Road Fellowship

This student utilized their involvement in the ILR High Road Fellowship to serve the Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI) to promote business and educational opportunity to Buffalo’s West Side, a historically Black and Indigenous community. This community has historically been scorned by redlining, blockbusting and systemic inequality that has decimated the credit scores and financial opportunities of local entrepreneurs. The goal of this project was to promote awareness of such history and the patterns that reproduce such issues for BIPOC business owners. The student conducted research on patterns of inequality and conducted interviews with Community Development Financial Institutions and former NYS congressmen and used this information to formulate reports on malicious lending practices.
