Grazing Sheep on Solar Array Sites to Optimize Pollinator Plant Species and Sequester Soil Carbon
This student conducted research that was heavily influenced by the announcement of the New York Green New Deal which, in 2019, stated a commitment to doubling the amount of solar renewable energy resources throughout the state by 2025. This student, along with a research team, investigated the usefulness of co-locating grazing sheep and solar arrays as a means for meeting this renewable energy goal while simultaneously maintaining agricultural land use. The student used surveys to gather the public’s opinion about the project and created an accessible website to share news and community outreach materials.
