Engaged Curriculum Grants

Gateways to International Learning

Creating curricula that serves as a gateway for international and engaged experiences that produce successful global partnerships.

Anthropological education thrives on intercultural learning experiences, whether around the corner or around the globe. This project offers a multi-year curriculum to teach the skills of global citizenship. First- and second-year students learn the basic tenets of global engagement while students who have returned from field-based experiences abroad join the class and mentor their peers. Students have the opportunity to interact with international students at Cornell through the English Language Support Office. They also have the option of partnering with adult ESL learners from Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES and volunteering together with local nonprofit community organizations. These experiences provide students the practical skills to build bridges to multicultural communities on Cornell’s campus, in the Ithaca community and in their study abroad destinations.

Grant type: Development (2017-18, 2016-17), Planning (2015-16)
