FOR Nepal: Building a Community Center Together
Planning and building a community center in earthquake-ravaged Mhanégang, Nepal
Mhanégang, Nepal – a community that has collaborated with anthropology faculty for more than 40 years – was completely destroyed by two major earthquakes in 2015. This project supports travel for faculty and students assisting on the building of a community center in the city. The idea of the center came out of a two-year collaboration among the Mhanégang community, the Srijana Women’s Agricultural Cooperative Society, the Cornell-Nepal Earthquake Recovery Partnership (CNERP), Cornell For Nepal, FOR Nepal, as well as individual students, scholars and faculty. The new facilities will house income-generating activities, provide space for community-wide events and shelter the community safely in the event of future disasters.
