Engaged Curriculum Grants

Feminism and Social Justice

Creating new community-engaged learning opportunities for Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies students

Social justice is integral to Cornell’s Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies (FGSS) Program, and the FGSS curriculum promotes a vision of feminism that challenges structural inequalities and foregrounds equity and equality for all. Many FGSS students are interested in connecting their classroom learning to hands-on collaborations with community partners, so this team is designing community-based learning and research that can be fully integrated into the FGSS curriculum. Initial engagement projects will include feminist text discussions with middle- and high-school students in rural Tompkins County and supporting Central American refugees detained and applying for asylum at the Mexico-U.S. border. Through this planning grant, the team will strengthen existing partnerships and identify and build new ones around the goals of feminism and social justice.
