Do-It-Yourself Outbreak Exhibit

Educating the community about disease outbreaks and how to control them

Infectious disease public health education is an imperative as evidenced by anti-vaccination movements and the emergence of dangerous strains of known diseases. In this project, Master of Public Health (MPH) students, the Smithsonian Institution (SI), Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) and Ithaca high schools will develop an educational exhibit about how disease outbreaks result from our interconnectedness and how we can protect ourselves and one another. Using the SI’s “Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World” do-it yourself toolkit for community use, the MPH students, TCHD and other partners will develop an exhibit that addresses the local community’s specific disease education needs.

Topics: Arts, Communication, Media and Design; Education; Health, Nutrition and Medicine
