Engaged Undergraduate Research Grants
Brain Awareness in Science Education
Empowering K–4 students to take charge of their brain development
Research shows that we can make choices to influence our brain growth, but schoolchildren rarely have opportunities to learn about the brain and how they can affect its development. This team is working with K-4 students from the Syracuse Academy of Science (SAS) to explore how fostering a sense of agency over brain development will give students the knowledge to make choices that promote brain function, academic achievement and socioemotional development. Throughout the project, six undergraduate researchers will hold monthly exercised for SAS students, delivering age-appropriate neuroscience lessons and activities. The undergraduate researchers will gain first-hand experience in education, science communication and research methodology in intervention studies.
