Engaged Curriculum Grants

An Introduction to the Internet of Things

Designing Cornell’s first introductory course on the Internet of Things (IoT): Technology and Engagement

The Internet of Things (IoT) — or the extension of internet connectivity into physical objects and everyday devices — is booming. Billions of new devices are connected each year, annual economic benefits could reach up to $11 trillion by 2025 worldwide, and a recent analysis by the World Economic Forum says it could be a gamechanger for sustainability.

This team is creating Cornell’s first introductory IoT course, in which students will engage with community partners to tackle a social, economical or environmental problems using the  technology. Through collaborations on real-time energy management, flood monitoring and water resources management, students will learn how to develop IoT-based technological solutions and how to communicate about the responsible use of IoT technology to create positive societal impact.
