An Engaged Anchor Institution
Measuring and analyzing Cornell University’s socioeconomic impact on Tompkins County
A 2017 report from Democracy Collaborative, Higher Education’s Anchor Mission, examined how universities’ efforts to track the impact they have on “the financial and social wellbeing of their surrounding neighborhoods is helping these anchor institutions align their resources to build stronger community partnerships and create more inclusive local economies.” Following the guidelines set out in that report, this project team is developing tools to help Cornell University assess its long-term socioeconomic impacts as an engaged anchor institution in Tompkins County. Results will be made available through a public online dashboard.
