Community-Engaged Student Travel Grants
ACLU Border Rights Center
Supporting Central American asylum seekers at the Border Rights Center of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in El Paso, Texas
In this learning experience, the grant recipient helped identify the main challenges that asylum seekers face when they reach the southern border of the United States and how to strengthen legal representation for this group. Activities included assisting the Center with border strategies, investigating complaints, keeping track of border abuses, completing factual research and border policy analysis, and drafting memorandums for Congressional meetings. The goal of the project was to gain knowledge about the impact immigration policies are having on Central American asylum seekers.
