Engaged Opportunity Grants
A Community Conversation with Monica White
Bringing the author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement to Ithaca
Examining the intersections of race, farming equity, and food systems is a priority for both the Cornell Small Farms Program and the Community Food Systems Undergraduate Minor, and team members regularly host food justice speakers on campus to inspire diverse students and local citizens. This grant supports bringing Dr. Monica White to campus for a community dinner and discussion. A professor at UW-Madison, White is author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement. The event is being co-designed with local community partners and student groups to cultivate deeper consideration of and local leadership on these pressing issues.
