Certificate in Community-Engaged Leadership

Patrick Mehler

Hometown: Yonkers, New York

Major: Industrial and Labor Relations

Minor: Leadership, Law & Society

I work with my community(ies) to address … Student voting and civic engagement.

My friends would say I’m … confident, passionate, and extremely interconnected within my communities.

Fun fact: I once balanced an egg on a nail on the Equator during the summer solstice and received an “award” from the President of Ecuador.

The best part about the community-engaged leadership program is … learning new styles of leadership and the focus on reflection.

For my Stage 2 committed project, I … worked with Cornell Votes in Ithaca, NY. I ran the organization to increase student voter turnout via coalition building, strategic communication, and effective community engagement with our 50+ group. While we may not have the concrete data yet, the Cornell community was incredibly appreciative of the work we completed.

My community partner(s) taught me … the importance of placing your full trust in those whom you look to serve.

I plan to continue my journey as an engaged leader by … continuously serving my Cornell community and future ones with service and community ingrained.
