Minor in Moral Psychology
Laura Niemi is working with Fellows John Doris and Shaun Nichols to develop a minor in moral psychology, which will have a community-engaged learning component as its capstone requirement. As Faculty Fellows in Engaged Learning, they are developing the capstone course, Moral Psychology in Action, which will offer a breadth of opportunities, such as internships at local organizations, that enable students to see the many ways that moral psychology comes to life.
The course will launch in partnership with EcoVillage, an Ithaca-based community working toward sustainable ecological, social, economic and cultural environments. As interns at EcoVillage, students will support communities in hands-on ways, while garnering valuable experience related to timely and important topics. For example, they will participate in and contribute to initiatives for net zero energy living, healthy aging in place and personal farming. Students will also have the opportunity to contribute to building a Global Climate Corps of young people in connection to international environmental programs and will contribute to projects addressing biodiversity in Costa Rica, community resilience in the face of desertification in India and the empowerment of young girls in Nepal.
Engaged Faculty Fellowship Program
