Financial Literacy for Veterinary Professionals

As the leader of the education component at Cornell’s Center for Veterinary Business and Entrepreneurship (CVBE), Jorge Colón is developing a business education program that culminates in a Certificate of Veterinary Business Management. Jorge is designing opportunities for students to engage with communities around financial literacy education, including creating educational materials for high-school students, underrepresented minorities and veterinary technicians. He is also integrating critical reflection into the program, using ePortfolios to help students create a framework for community engagement that they can use even after they graduate.

“My goal is to utilize the [Engaged Faculty] Fellowship as a means of creating and extending a collaborative network of resources that will allow me to quickly grow into my position in a way that is beneficial to our veterinary students, veterinary interns and residents, science-based undergraduate students, and the communities that these students will integrate into their education as part of their learning.” —Jorge Colón
