Engaged Faculty Fellowship Program

Jamie Perry

In-class simulations only take students so far. The best way to teach management is to be engaged in a team environment in the community.

About the Fellow

  • Assistant Professor, School of Hotel Administration, SC Johnson College of Business
  • Jamie Perry’s faculty profile

Cohort year(s)

  • 2018-19, Faculty Fellow in Engaged Learning

Topic(s):

  • Economic Vitality and Entrepreneurship

2018-19 Project

Effective teamwork requires managers who can intervene into complex group dynamics, a skill that is difficult for business students to learn through concepts and theory alone. Jamie Perry is adding a community-engaged project to her course on leading and managing teams to give students authentic experience in solving issues in team management. Through partnership with local organizations, students strengthen their ability to integrate diverse perspectives and diagnose and solve the interpersonal dynamics affecting team performance. Community partners gain access to contemporary organizational practices as they co-create approaches to reach their performance goals.

Engaged Faculty Fellowship Program

A yearlong cohort program in which faculty dive deep into the theory and practice of community-engaged learning and scholarship; meet monthly to discuss readings, and share projects and workshop challenges
