Just a little bit of your time each week could make a BIG difference to a local 7th grader! The Ithaca Youth Bureau’s College Discovery Program is currently looking for volunteer mentors. They hope to provide youth in their program with a connection that encourages their growth & helps them develop their unique potential over time. Youth nominated for their program are from typically underrepresented groups in challenging high school classes (e.g. first-generation college, BIPOC, low SES). Their program has matched mentors & mentees for over 20 years! The current student cohort they are trying to find matches for are in 7th grade.
As a mentor, they ask that you:
- are over the age of 18
- have a desire to make a positive impact in the life of a young person
- can dedicate 2 hours per week to spend time with your mentee
- can make at least a 1 year commitment to your youth (remaining in touch digitally if/when you are out of town)
If you are interested & would like to learn more or complete an application, please contact Program Coordinator, Linda at lcbarr@cityofithaca.org or 607-273-8364 ext. 2151.
