Certificate in Community-Engaged Leadership

H/EOP Ambassadors

Earned Certificate in Community-Engaged Leadership: 2020, 2021

Mission: The EOP & HEOP Student Ambassador Program is a coalition of EOP and HEOP student leaders. Using our knowledge and experience, ambassadors have three aims. First, we aim to educate and increase prospective student awareness of the New York State Opportunity Programs at Cornell University. Second, we aim to facilitate student involvement and engagement on campus. We look to facilitate student involvement and engagement, to make our EOP and HEOP students heard and seen by others. Lastly, we look to build coalitions with aligned campus organizations.

For our project, we … aimed to increase the awareness of our community and build strong bonds throughout the group. We did this through sponsoring events and highlighting our shared experiences as EOP/HEOP students. We also cultivated a social media presence where we highlighted ambassadors and community members for their good work and longstanding relationships built through the Prefreshman Summer Program (PSP).

It was important for us to commit to our community because … we recognize the importance of maintaining and expanding the EOP and HEOP community on and off campus while celebrating our shared experiences.

Our community taught us … despite coming from different backgrounds, we all have similarities and commonalities that unite us and motivate us to give back to our larger EOP and HEOP community. We are proud of who we are and what we have achieved.

Our group has benefited in that … we saw how we can build community even during difficult times. This year has taught us the importance of checking in with one another and communicating our needs.

We’ve also learned that the community-engaged leadership program is … a great opportunity to develop our team and work towards a common goal.  We learned about us as individuals and how we work together as a team.

With this experience, we plan to … to create an in-person mentorship program for H/EOP students and ambassadors.
