Certificate in Community-Engaged Leadership

Allison Arteaga ’21

Allison ArteagaHometown: Lima, Peru

Major: Fine Arts

Minor: History

I work with my community(ies) to address … people’s liberation, usually through issues of immigration and workers’ rights.

My friends would say I’m … a grandfather.

Fun fact about me: I don’t have a gallbladder and am probably going to be missing more organs in the future.

The best part about the Certificate in Engaged Leadership is … being able to share good reading lists.

For my Stage 2 committed project, I … worked with the Multicultural Resource Center in developing local youth organizing.

My community partner(s) taught me … radical change is a long and daily struggle.

I’ve also learned that engaged leaders … should read as much as they speak.

Other projects and organizations I’m committed to include … Cornell DREAM Team and Students for Justice in Palestine

I plan to continue my journey as an engaged leader by … continuing to study my community’s history. I plan to become an artist-organizer around my new home of northern New Jersey or try to pass the LSAT to eventually become an immigration lawyer.
