Twenty new Engaged Faculty Fellows named

September 8, 2020 — A total of 20 faculty members from eight colleges have been named Engaged Faculty Fellows, committed to advancing community-engaged learning and scholarship at Cornell and within their academic disciplines.

The program is offered through the Office of Engagement Initiatives (OEI). Nearly 100 faculty members have become fellows since the program launched in 2013.

Brothers’ nonprofit feeds hungry in native Puerto Rico

August 27, 2020 — When Héctor Ibáñez ’20 and his brother, Joey Ibáñez ’23, headed home to Puerto Rico in March after the COVID-19 pandemic hit, they met people who were surviving on crackers and rice.

Since they and other college friends were all stuck at home with time on their hands, they decided to make a difference. Hector and his friend Isak Romero, a recent Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate, started making calls to raise funds and help alleviate hunger on the island.

Chemistry students offer summer session for peers

July 10, 2020 — Faced with the end of a popular summer program that helped students prepare for the rigors of organic chemistry, a group of undergraduates is running a similar program for 40 of their fellow students this summer.

Task force fills food gaps for families

July 9, 2020 — With families struggling to put food on the table during the pandemic, the Tompkins County COVID-19 Food Task Force hosted a free food pickup and delivery for more than 800 individuals, in 216 households, July 7 and 8.

Warner’s Grant Brings Students into Age-Friendly Communities Research

June 30, 2020 — The Cornell Office of Engagement Initiatives has awarded a new $50,000 Impact Grant to Professor Mildred Warner, CRP, for research on age-friendly communities.

Engaged Cornell Impact Grants support scholars with an existing community-engaged research agenda who are ready to scale student and community partner participation and evaluate the long-term impact of their programs.
